Project was created in 2011, marking the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and 34 years since the United Nations officially recognised a Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace in 1977. The project is a social awareness work against violence against women and girls. It features 34 well known women from different professions photographed underwater, holding their breath for as long as they could and letting go at the final moment. The exhibition travelled across several cities in Turkey, with venues deliberately chosen in areas where these issues are most prevalent, particularly suburban shopping centres and high schools. More than 500,000 visitors saw the work. Supported by the United Nations Population Fund, each portrait was exhibited alongside a text by the participating woman calling on the public to confront and stop the issue.
